20250524 Elk River

Amber and Akery's plan for Memorial Day weekend was a girls camp with some of Akery's friends. Amber took the trailer to Elk River on Friday, but Akery had to work on Saturday, so she and her friends left for camp that evening. With the weather being so nice, I decided I would take advantage and take a ride and drop in a visit Amber.

Before I could leave, I had to apply a software patch to a production server for work and do a few chores, inside and outside. While finishing up, I texted Akery to get more detailed information as to where the camp was, since there was little to no service there. I got enough information to know where I was headed. Once that was done, and I got the bike loaded up, I was ready to go.

After stopping to fill up the tank and gas can, I headed out of town.

Traffic slowed to a crawl coming into Kendrick, as the Locust Blossom Festival was in full swing. There were may several vehicles of may types on display along the side of the road and people milling around.

I had to slow down again about 1.5 miles south of Deary for a couple deer crossing the road.

Arriving in Elk River, I made my way through town and started heading down Dent Bridge Road towards the camp grounds. As I came around a corner, Amber was heading into town on one of their mini-bikes. We pulled over, chatted for a minute and then headed to their camp site.

After checking out the site, we headed back into town to see if Jeff was still at his trailer. He was not.

Amber wanted to check out the road on the other side of the Reservoir, so we started down that road. Since the mini-bike on goes 20-25 mph and Amber was only going about 15 mph, I was able to put my bike in 2nd gear and almost idle down the road. Which also allowed me to get this picture.

We made it all the way around the Reservoir and back into town. Amber decided she didn't want to cook anything at camp, so we went to the Log Inn to eat. They had their Wi-Fi password posted on a napkin dispenser, so we were able to connect and get some text's out.

As we were eating, I was surprised to first get a message and then a video call from Bia, a friend in Brazil. Appeartly, she was having a conversation with someone that eventually brought her to the realization that she forgot to wish me a happy birthday, on my birthday. After a short conversation, we said our good-byes, and then I explained to Amber what we had talked about. (I'm not sure what proper etiquette is when you have a conversation in a different language in front of someone, but I thought it polite to give a quick summary.)

Amber and I, then made our way back to camp, were we setup the tent for the girls, but didn't stake it down, so they could decide where to put it when they arrived. Also, taking care of a few other things around camp. And I took a couple pictures.

Amber did let me take one of the mini-bikes for a spin around the camp site. They are interesting to ride. I did accidently popped a wheelie once, when coming up over an incline. Definitely something that would take some getting used to riding.

Around 3:30 ish, Amber kicked me out (in the most polite way) so she could take a nap, since she didn't sleep well the night before, before the girls got there.

On the way home, I pulling into the gas station in Deary, where I was thinking about filling up. However, the price was 50 cents more per gallon than in Lewiston. Since both the bike and the GPS said I still had enough to make it home, and I had an extra gallon in the gas can, I decided to wait until I got home to fill up.

Back in Lewiston, I went to Amber's house to see how far out it was before the girls were to leaving. Akery wasn't home from work yet, but I waited until she got home. We chatted about a couple things while she (and her friends) were getting things ready to go. Then, I wished them safe travels and they were on their way.

I did go and fill up before heading home, completing an approximate 164 mile ride and enjoyable visit.
