20240719 Freedom Grand Prix

Well, we finally got our schedules aligned and were able to complete the 7th Freedom Grand Prix. (We didn't get it done last year)

My sister Wendy needed to pick up some things, so instead of riding on the bike to Freedom, she followed behind in her car.

We first stopped at Aunt Veloys and visited for a bit and then we proceeded to talk her into getting a ride. She had concerns about her ability to get on and off, but she did want a ride, so it wasn't too difficult to convince her. Using a small step stool, we were able to help her on. Then she got excited.

I took her regular route, four miles over to the road that heads up Jackknife and then back to her house. She was very happy as we pulled into her front yard. And then we successfully helped her off the bike.

We then headed over to Aunty Trudy's. We spent a little time visiting first. Part of this visit turned to food and what purchases were needed both for this weekend and for Camp which begins next week. This is Wendy presented her "Amazing" idea...

Wendy would take Aunty's things in the car and she could ride on the bike over to the grocery store in Thayne. Aunty could do her shopping and we could pick up a few things that we needed as well. Then, the groceries would be placed in Wendy's car and Aunty could ride on the bike, back to her house. There was a little discussion and concern about timing, but Wendy finally talked her into it.

Of coarse, we first had to get a picture, and then I asked, "Do you want to go on the highway or the back way?". She emphatically said, "the back way, the highway would scare me". Which was actually fine by me because, despite the fact that it is a slower road, it has some nice corners that are fun to go around.

On the way out, we did end up getting stuck behind a few cars. Later, Wendy confessed to thinking, "Oh no, Aaron's not going to like that. I thought you would have passed that white jeep." To which I replied, "If I were alone, I probably would have." But in the end, it wouldn't have done me any good to pass, because of the cars in front of the jeep.

When we arrived at the store, Cousin Dena was coming out of the store, so there was a short visit in the parking lot. Then, Dena went on her way and we went about our shopping.

Once complete, everything was loaded into the car and Aunty Trudy and I climbed on the bike. I asked, "back way again?", to which she said, "Yes, it has been a long time since I've been that way and it is nice to see." To which I asked, "can I take the corners harder?" (aka faster). She said "No".

On the way back, we did not have any cars ahead of us, and I must admit, I did take the corners a little faster, but nothing crazy. It was funny to hear her make a little screech as we took the first sharp corner, followed by "Oh, I wasn't ready for that." But she did fine for all the rest of the corners.

Once we got to her house, we unloaded her groceries and chatted for a little bit before Wendy and I headed out.

On the way back home, we took the highway. I stopped in Thayne at one other store trying to find a specialty battery, but they didn't carry it. And then I continued on back home.

It is always fun to provide this activity to those that enjoy it so much.
