It is that time of year again, and I am all preped and ready to go.
The crowd wasn't as big this year, but not a bad turn out.
The good thing is the truck and trailer had lots of toys and bycicles.
I recognized a few different people from previous years, but I also actually knew someone. Art Castilleja was there. We spent a little time catching up. Looking back on it now, I must be getting old, because a good portion of the conversation was about what ails us.
A few minutes before 13:00, people started getting ready for departure. I sent a quick text to Diane, letting her know we would be crossing the bridge in 15-20 minutes. And then another text to Akery, letting her know that we would be going by her house in 20-30 minutes, in case she felt the urge some come out and wave.
Once we got going, we made our way through the normal route. Although, we did have a harding time making it through in some spots. I don't know if the Highwaymen just didn't have enough helpers to block traffic or what.
Once we made it to and onto Fleshmen Way, we picked up the speed and were actually moving right along. I'm sure it was the fastest we have ever made it down Fleshmen, across the Bridge and up Bryden Canyon, despite having to work around some traffic.
Big Country News Connection was setup on Bryden Canyon, on the 8th St overpass and posted a video on there facebook: 2023 TOY RUN
At 1:25, I start coming into view.
At 1:34, I'm a little past center screen, but am more visible. I'm on the Trike with the silver helmet, behind the guy with the blue helmet.
At 1:35, I waved at the guy in the center of the overpass. (Not the person recording, which was off to the east edge.)
And at 1:36, I leave the frame.
We continued our route, making our way through Lewiston. We turned west on 16th Ave, and I started watching to see if Akery had come out. I pasted their street and didn't see her, but a moment later, there she was driving the other way. She waved and I waved back. ... I miss having her as a passenger, it made it that much more enjoyable to share the experiance with her.
Anyway, we continued on our way, and made our way downtown, winding our way through and arriving at the Salvation Army.
After getting the toys out and making my way into the building. I dropped off the toys and made my way into the kitchen/cafeteria area, where they had treats layed out on tables for us. While browsing the options available, I heard a couple people mentioning that there was an accident on Southway Bridge, but wasn't sure if there were any biked involved. I also got a text from Diane asking if I was OK, as she was seeing 3 police cars, a firetruck and an ambulance. Obviously, I had already passed by when the accident occured.
After about 5-10 minutes, I made my way back out to my bike. As I headed out, I went over to Ambers. As I knocked and made my way in, Amara came out and said, "Nobody is home." I disagreed, and she insisted, listing off where people where. I told her that she is home and she is somebody. I also mentioned that Akery's Jeep was back and she said that she didn't know Akery was back. She then informed me that she was going back to her nap. At which time I went downstairs and chatted with Akery while she painted her face.
After a while, I decided that I best go home to do some chores, cause Akery said she wasn't going to do them for me. So, I said my goodbyes and made my way home.
And that brings us to the end of another adventure.
May you have a Merry Christmas filled with joy and happiness.
