So, Nephew Andrew got a bike this year, so we decided that we needed to get a ride in while I was down in Wyoming. We finally decided we would ride to Montpelier when Andrew got off work at 16:00 on Wednesday (7/6/2022).
When I arrived at the Weed and Pest, Andrew was just finishing up and locking up as I was parking.
I first walked over to his bike to get a look at it as he came out.
Before leaving, a couple pictures had to be taken, and as much as I dislike "selfies", I did break down and take one.
With his permission, I rode Andrews bike and he rode the trike the 0.5 mile to the fuel station where Eric (Andrews dad, my brother) works.
I topped off my trike and Andrew went in the office.
After getting the 2 gallons for $12.00, I also went in the office.
This is when we acquired a hitch-hiker.
Here, let me explain...
I noticed that Misty (Andrews Mom) had called, so I called her back. Hearing Andrew and Eric in the background, she deduced where I/we were. She asked a couple questions about our current status and then came to the crux of the questioning. Lizzy wanted to go with us. I said that we would wait if she would drive up.
While waiting, I proceeded to take my "backrest" off so she would have a place to sit. When she arrived, I placed the components thereof into her car. We then all climbed aboard and departed.
Coming out the south of Afton, we got up to speed and I set the cruse. (Sometimes, this keeps me out of trouble.) We slowed down for Smoot and then back up to speed and resumed cruse. As we started up the south end, I didn't notice that the cruse wasn't keeping up until we came out of the first curve and notice Andrew was on top of us. The 6th gear is kind of an overdrive type gear and doesn't always carry the power needed to hold a speed on a steep incline. I shifted down to 5th and brought the bike up to speed.
As we traveled through the canyon, we came upon a few slower vehicles. The first set were easy to get past. The second set weren't as easy, because they would pick up speed on the straight aways but then slow way down where we couldn't pass. And the semi-truck in the middle didn't help any. That said, we were able to get past the last of them on the long straight stretch coming out of the canyon before Geneva.
It didn't take us long, from here, to get to Montpelier.
However, along this stretch, I think the speakers on my bike blew out.
I switched the power to the amp off and on, turned the volume down and back up and even tapped the speaker casings.
Yup, I think they're toast.
Upon arriving in Montpelier, we pulled off to decide where we would eat supper. This is where we got the first picture of the hitch-hiker. There was some back and forth on a couple options and it was finally decided we would go to the Ranch Hand.
Once we were seated and had given our orders, I got a picture.
Lizzy got the popcorn chicken basket, Andrew got a Chicken Smokehouse sandwich and I got the Finger Steaks dinner with the Italian Meatball soup. We were all happy with the food, it was very good.
After settling the bill, we began the return trip. It was a smooth and easy ride with no traffic. Being as late as it was, the sun was still high and beating down, which is why I so enjoyed the cool shaded areas when we passed through them.
We stopped at the top of Salt River Pass for a couple pictures and to see if any adjustments were needed.
Lizzy, being contrary to my beliefs, thought that those shaded areas were too cold and was going to put on her jacket, until Andrew pointed out that the rest of the way would be in the open and there would not be any more shade.
We were soon back on our way.
As we slowed coming into Afton, I took the right lane and Andrew followed, but after a little bit, he moved over to the left lane and pulled up next to us.
After a second, I see that he has his phone out attempting to line up to take pictures.
I adjusted my speed so he could get the pictures quicker, shaking my head... And I (as well as others) though I was the crazy one.
We were soon back at the fueling station to get Lizzy's car and go our seperate ways.
What a great little ride, with fun had by all.
