20201212 Toy Run

Before I get started into today's pictures, despite not actually going on the ride with me, last Saturday Akery did go with me to the store to help pick out some toys for today's Toy Run. Also, early this week, Diane stopped by and dropped off the toys she had picked up to donate.

At about 12:30, I headed over to Lancer Lanes.

Upon arriving I parked and began to take off gloves and helmet. Another rider came over and mentioned that I had parked in the traffic lane for the Kenzie's Koffee coffee shop. (They had previously been asked to move.) I climbed back on and moved out of the way. I put on the Santa hat and began to mingle through the crowd of bikes.

I took a few pictures of the crowd as I wondered through the bikes.

The Toy Run truck and a U-Haul trailer were loaded up as well, accepting additions for people donating.

We even had a couple scooters. I do think I've seen at least one or two the past couple years.

As it got closer to 13:00, more bikes joined the group. Even though I believe the numbers were down this year, I still think we had a good turnout.

And the paint job of the year goes to: There are always some fun and/or interesting paint jobs.

As we began to pull out, I ended up being towards the front of the pack. Normally I'm towards the middle of the group. I noticed that being at the front is a bit different ride than being further back. First of all, you don't get "backed up" as much, as there are few bikes ahead of you to clog up the flow. On the other hand, you notice quickly that you start running out of the organizers as they peel off to stop traffic at intersections. It can make for an interesting adventure as you hope that traffic will yield to the run. All in all, riding at the front was about 4-5 minutes faster, as I still had one more song left in the playlist which is timed just long enough for the ride.

Arriving at the Salvation Army, I found a place to park and peeled off my helmet and gloves. I put on my Santa hat and got the toys out of the trunk and headed for the building.

This year, due to restrictions and what not, they had setup a table at the entrance of the building where we would hand off the toys and they would take them. They did have a second door where someone was taking bicycles and other larger things of that sort. And a final third door where a couple ladies were handing out pre-bagged cookies.

With my toys relinquished, I returned to the bike and slowly made my way through the traffic (both riding and walking) and rode out of the parking lot and on to the next activity of the day.
