20180723 Andrew Montpelier

So, my nephew, Andrew, has returned from his mission. (Here he is with his cousin, my niece, taken 7/22/2018).

We concluded that he wanted me to take him for a ride. It took some prying, but we finally got him to pick a place to go. Survey says, Montpelier.

I sent him a text at 9:30 pacific time and asked if 10:00 would work for him to leave. The problem is, Grover Wyoming is in mountain time, so it was already 10:30. He corrected me and we agreed that an 11:00 departure time would work for both of us.

We stopped in Afton to top off the tank, and then headed south. As we passed locations from my previous adventure on this road, I pointed them out.

There is only about 51 miles between Grover and Montpelier, so it didn't take us too long to get there. We stopped behind the Phillips 66 to decide where to eat. We finally decided on El Jaliciense. (also happens to be a song by Vicente Fernandez)

We had a nice visit and Andrew enjoyed listening to the employee's speak Spanish. I could catch some words and phrases here and there. Their accent and the speed in which they spoke made it hard for my orelha brasileira to follow. For Andrew, I don't think the accent or speed was too hard for his Dominican ear.

The food was very good, and we took our time to enjoy our time there. When we were finally ready, I paid the bill and we headed out to the trike.

As we left and headed back to highway 89, I confirmed with Andrew that he was holding on. I then followed up with a, Hold on tight. We then turned to the right onto the highway, coming out of the corner at the top of first gear. As we did so, it made the right rear tire a little light, and with a quick shift into second, and a bit of throttle... The right rear tire got some good traction and the front tire lifted off the ground. Don't get me wrong, you know how sometimes your not sure if it just extended the front forks all the way, or if the tire actually came off the ground. Well, there was no question on this one, but it did not high enough to worry anyone.

The rest of the trip back home was uneventful, but still enjoyable. We'll have to see if he comes back for more the next time there is an opportunity.
