20160625 First Voyage

First, lets give a little back story...

On May 31st 2016, I had a appointment with my doctor. One of the things discussed was whether or not I could put weight on my leg. The answer was yes, which allowed me to begin the process of getting a prosthetic.

On June 7th, I went to an appointment to have my stump cast. It was a lovely play called "Tree", alas it didn't get the part.

On June 16th, I went to an appointment to have a BK fitting. It went well, and he had me pick out a pattern for the socket.

On the morning of June 25th, I went to an appointment to get my first prosthetic. I spent a good amount of time there as he measured and adjusted, and I tested and walked. Then, he sent me on my way.

Now, what is the first thing you do when you get a new prosthetic? Well, everyone knows... You take it for a spin. And that's what I did. I even mounted the camera so I could get some video. Here we (my new leg and I) are pulling out of the garage and starting out.

We made it onto the road and headed south on 10th. Here we are as we take a left onto Ripon.

I went around the block and headed back towards 10th... You know the nursery rhyme, Ring around the rosie... Well, here's where we all fell down.

The nice gentleman in the silver car stopped to help. After a quick mention that it is the first day with my new leg, he lifted the bike off of me, using words of encouragement and respect for climbing back on the horse, so to speak. He then held the bike while I climbed back on board. I graciously thanked him, shaking his hand before parting ways.

I made it home, going through another two stop signs without any issues. As I pulled up to the garage, I almost lost it again, however a quick pop of the clutch killed the engine but saved me.

Well, I don't call them Crazy Biker Adventures for nothing. That being said, I think it will be a little while before my next ride... I really need to build up some muscles that haven't been used in six months.
