Scott and Doug are planning a bicycle ride in early July. Scott wanted to scout out the planned route, so that is what we did.
Also invited was Jason Moore and Dave Denham.
I'm just about ready...
We had a late start because Scott had to work until 9:00, so we all met in Asotin at 10:00. Then we head out to Heller Bar.
The truck in the background belongs to Doug. He and a friend went on a "training" ride to prepare for the ride in July.
We stopped for a little bit when we reached a lookout point in the Hells Canyon National Recreation Area.
We came upon these trees on Roberts Butte road. Scott had a hand saw that breaks down in his pack. He pulled it out, put it together and proceeded to start cutting the top off the tree. Jason took over and finished cutting through the tree. We then pulled the top out of the way so we could ride around it. (pics are post cutting)
We stopped to rest for a few minutes on Troy Road at the bridge over the Grande Round river.
Then, we head up towards Mount Misery. Here, we stopped for a minute while Dave was taking pictures a little behind us on the trail.
We didn't make it all the way over Mount Misery. We ran into some downed trees that we just couldn't get past.
Durring the trip we saw several deer and elk, but we didn't get any pictures of them. There was one elk herd that I thought was going to run over Scott as they bounded across the road. Scott did say that one of the bulls caught it's front hooves on the fence as it attempts to jump over it and it when head over tail on the road in front of him.
We got back home about 10:30. It was a very dusty ride. Here is apicture of my dusty face before I took a shower before going to bed. And here is the dust on my jacket.
Stats: 250 miles - a little over 12 hours.
